The earthquake in Japan came without warning and left with devastating results. The earthquake cost hundreds of peoples' lives, separated families and will have an impact for years to come. It destroyed homes, infrastructure and a lot of things that will take time and resources to rebuild. In times of devastating catastrophes like this quick and well coordinated international help is an imperative. We need strong international institutions to make that work. We know that the world is fragile and we should organize ourselves so that we are ready to assist people in need from day one. Solidarity is a word to be practised.
Rethink energy policy NOW!Today the world is following how Japan is struggling to get control of their nuclear plants. The nuclear plants are damaged forever; the question is how bad it will be. The worst is sadly more than possible. Once again it's a tragedy that teaches us the lesson. The risks of nuclear power have again been transformed from theory to practise. In recent years the opinion that nuclear power is an environmental friendly and safe energy option has won support again. Today people are fleeing in order to save their lives from nuclear radiation. Against all assurances, nuclear power is far from safe. The environment will be destroyed for a long time. And the nuclear waste will be active for thousands of years and will be a silent threat that will outlive us. It is time for a fundamental change. It is time for safe, environmental friendly and sustainable energy. |
