 The attack against our friends of AUF, Norway, is a true tragedy. Today we have received the news that more than 80 of the comrades of AUF were killed. It is unbelievably sad.
The friends of AUF gathered to hold their yearly summer camp at Utøya. To discuss, meet friends and enjoy life. A paradise was turned into hell through an unjustifiable act of violence.
In this time of challenge and sorrow we listen and gather behind the words of our friend and comrade Eskil Pedersen, President of AUF:
- "AUF and the ideas of AUF will live on, we will never give up in our struggle for what we believe in. We will, as the Prime Minster Jens Stoltenberg said earlier, meet terror with more democracy."
- "We need to gather behind the ideas of democracy and equality".
We, IUSY and ECOSY, and all of our member organizations around the world express our deep condolences with our friends of AUF in these difficult times. We all feel deep sorrow. Our hearts and minds are with the victims and their families.
The attack on AUF is an attack on all of us, our values and principles. We will continue our struggle for democracy, human rights and equality; for a multicultural society and the fight against right wing extremism.
We are meeting on Monday for our IUSY World Festival. In our hearts and thoughts our friends from AUF are with us.
We stand together in solidarity.

The Leadership of the Festival (IUSY, ECOSY and SJÖ) are now making all necessary arrangements in order to hold our IUSY World Festival in a respectful and safe way. We are in constant contact with the police, which are taking the necessary security measures in order to ensure a safe and secure Festival for all participants.
At the Festival we will express our condolences, our sorrow and respect the victims, their families and send our thoughts to the friends of AUF. We will do this at the Opening of the Festival and during all week. We encourage all member organizations to send their regards to AUF.
